La Sportiva Women’s Aim Hoody
A layer for all-around use, cool weather, and warming up.
BEST FOR: All-around use, cool weather, warming up
Hoodies are the greatest for climbing, especially bouldering. They are good in the cold and for warming up, and handy for walking around in between problems. You don’t have to pull full-zip hoodies off over your head, which in roped climbing can mean hauling across a helmet. This one would accommodate that, though. The La Sportiva Women’s Aim Hoody fits over a helmet and, though lightweight, it tries to help you out in wind and storm: It zips way up under your chin and even crawls a bit up from there.
Number one, the thing is super stretchy, with four-way pull and elastic waist and cuff. The single pocket is way up and off to the side, such that it’s not easy to move a phone or folded topo sheet in and out of it, but comfortably out of the way of a harness.
The Aim Hoody has a nice cut, with a flattering asymmetrical color change extending from just under the ribs on one side toward the other hip, keeping the style from looking blocky. Overall, it’s a good climb-to-town piece, technical but sort of fun and steezy. The mesh underarm inserts blend in, and the item is treated with silver-salt anti-odor processing. It’s a good piece to wear over a tank or T.
Has Bluesign approval, from a company founded in Switzerland in 2000 to promote environmentally ethical standards for textile manufacturing.
Rock and Ice vigorously tests all gear it reviews for either 50 days or 50 pitches. This is a time-consuming process and limits the amount of new equipment we can present to our readers. Every year hundreds of new products hit store shelves, and most of these aren’t reviewed due to our stringent selection and review process. To better keep you more up to date on what is new, we present First Look. Gear in First Look has not always been field tested, but is gear we think you’d like to know about as soon as it is available. Some of the gear will be reviewed using our 50 days/50 pitches criteria, in future print and online editions of Rock and Ice.
