Adidas Women’s Terrex Multi Pant
A pair of pants for climbing, hiking or just hanging out.
BEST FOR: General mountain sports, from climbing to hiking and skiing
After I first tried these pants on, they stayed on the rest of the work day, then I climbed in them, and the next thing I knew I’d worn them two out of three days.
The Adidas Women’s Terrex Multi Pant is freaking great: light and comfortable and super (four-way) stretchy. When this tester finds good climbing pants, they’re in—used hundreds of times. For years. They come out of practically every laundry load. These will be like that.
They are tough, dragging across rock without snagging. The fabric, 91 percent nylon and 9 percent elastic plain weave, shucks off rain and snow—a claim one might prefer not to test, but would appreciate in need.
These pants, though they have the reinforced knees that can often give climbing-hiking pants a blocky appearance, actually have a slimmer fit than many pants. They are actually flattering, and somehow the elasticized waist still drapes smoothly down the back side, without that childish bubbled-up look. They are higher rise than some, a welcome aspect when you are in your harness and lowering.
You can just about dress them up (which means that most of us will), and if you like climbing pants that can also double for hiking, you’re golden. Low-profile side pockets can fit a phone, too.
Rock and Ice vigorously tests all gear it reviews for either 50 days or 50 pitches. This is a time-consuming process and limits the amount of new equipment we can present to our readers. Every year hundreds of new products hit store shelves, and most of these aren’t reviewed due to our stringent selection and review process. To better keep you more up to date on what is new, we present First Look. Gear in First Look has not been field tested, but is gear we think you’d like to know about as soon as it is available. Some of the gear will be reviewed using our 50 days/50 pitches criteria, in future print and online editions of Rock and Ice.
