Weekend Whipper: So Close To Sending … And Hitting the Ground!

By Rock and Ice | August 7th, 2014

This climber has it in the bag. After reaching the end of an arching crack in Red Rocks, Nevada, the fatigued but confidant climber stops to place one last piece to protect the finishing mantel. As he relaxes after placing the cam, he switches hands to rest and grabs on to a hold on the top of the climb with his right hand. But before he can get the cam clipped, the hold snaps and turns a near send into a near ankle-breaking groundfall.
