Alpine First Ascent on the Kastenwan by Much Mayr & Hansjörg AuerBy Rock and Ice | April 29th, 2014
Ever wonder what a cutting-edge alpine first ascent on a face known for its incredibly poor rock quality would look like? Then check out this cool drone footage of Hansjörg Auer and Much Mayr climbing a new route on the Kastenwan, in Pinnistal, Austria. Auer and Mayr established their seven-pitch free-route last September, becoming only the second team to free the formidable Kastenwan. The Auer/Mayr route features 5.12 climbing with very little protection. According to Auer, falling was not an option.
