Giorgia Tesio, 14, Makes First Female Ascent of Chay (5.13d)

Giorgia Tesio added Chay (8b/5.13d), in Albenga, Italy, to her tick list on June 24—claiming the first female ascent. Chay is the first 8b for the Italian 14-year-old, and she sent the route after only three burns.

“My first day!” Tesio wrote on her 8a.nu scorecard. “Made it on the third try.” [Translated from Italian.]

Tesio started climbing with her father in 2005 at the age of five.

Tesio flashed 8a (5.13b), Black Dolphin in Albenga, at the age of 12 and repointed Stone (5.13b) five days after sending Chay. Her bouldering tick list includes Excalibur Sit Start (V12) and Rampage (V11) in Varazze, Italy. Inside, Tesio was ranked #4 in her age group by the IFSC in 2014.
