Felipe Camargo, of Brazil, has claimed the third ascent of Chris Sharma’s Catalán Witness the Fitness (V15) at Cova del Ocell, near Barcelona, Spain. Camargo sent the monster roof climb on his fourth day, he reported.
“Super psyched…another great FA from Chris [Sharma]! Perfect roof climb!” Camargo wrote on his 8a.nu scorecard.
Sharma made the first ascent on December 4, 2015. He never suggested a grade, but said the new line is “…something like an 8B/+ (V13/14) into an 8A+ (V12), so whatever that means.”
Despite breaking a hold on the first section of the roof, Spanish climber Alberto “Beto” Rocasolano repeated the climb earlier this month and proposed 8C (V15) for difficulty.
Camargo confirmed the V15 grade. This is his second V15 send, the first being Fortaleza, in Ubatuba, Brazil—the country’s first boulder problem of the grade.
“I didn’t expect to do [Catalán Witness the Fitness] in just four days,” he reported to 8a.nu. “I’ve been training a lot of roof climbing!”
Camargo is seeking out the hardest roof climbs in the world—including The Wheel of Life (V15) in the Grampians, Australia, Dani Andrada’s Corazon de Ensueño (8c/5.14b) in China, and In Search of Time Lost in Magic Woods (8C/V15), Switzerland—filming for an “only roof climbs” movie.
“But first, [if] it dries, is my project in Rodellar, [Spain]!” he told 8a.nu. “A link into Los Inconformistas [9a/5.14d], which is like an 8c [5.14b] into the 9a! But if it doesn’t dry I might just climb in Margalef and Oliana. [Spain].”
